The City of Elmira maintains a compost facility at its Public Works site.

The Compost Facility will be opening on April 12th, 2025 from 8am - 12pm.
From there - Compost Facility hours are Tuesday through Friday 7am- 3pm and Saturday 8am - 12pm.
Information for when the compost facility is open:
- Allowable materials at the Compost Facility include grass, leaves, shrubs, twigs, plant material, branch, etc.
- Plastic bags are not allowed, and must be emptied of their contents. A dumpster has been placed at the site for your empty plastic bags
- Paper bags are allowed, and do not need to be emptied.
- No construction debris, fencing, concrete or metal.
Please note that the facility is monitored by cameras. Illegal dumping will be prosecuted.
The compost facility may be closed during certain times for maintenance.
