Subject: Criminal Possession of a Weapon Arrest
On May 13th 2025, an Investigator with the Elmira Police Department G.I.V.E. (Gun Involved Violence Elimination) Unit was conducting an enforcement detail within an identified hot spot in the City of Elmira. Identified hot spots are those areas which experience concentrated amounts of violent crime and violent crime by firearm based on rolling five-year data.
At around 7:30 PM in the vicinity of Broadway St and Balsam St, an identified Chronic/Top Offender was located operating a vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and contact was made with the occupants. A second Chronic/Top Offender was found to be a passenger within this vehicle. During the course of the investigation, a loaded handgun was found on the passenger.
Amir Williams, an 18-year-old Elmira resident, was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C Felony. Amir was held in Elmira PD custody pending arraignment in Elmira City Court.
