Subject: Assault on a Police Officer
On August 3, 2024, at approximately 11:28 PM, Elmira Police Officers responded to St Patrick’s apartments located at 517 Park Pl for a report of a suspicious condition. Police were requested to the apartment building by a concerned tenant, advising that they believed individuals were using narcotics in a common area hallway, outside of a nearby apartment.
Upon arrival Officers located the apartment in question and began interviewing the resident and the guests that were in the apartment. During the Officers investigation, it was learned that the resident, 37 year old Kasey Magar, had an active warrant out of the City of Elmira for Petit Larceny. When Officers attempted to effect the arrest of Magar, she resisted and retreated into her bedroom where she slammed the door in the Officers face. Officers then gained entry into the bedroom and again attempted to place Magar into custody. As the Officer entered the cluttered room, he slipped on clothing that was on the floor. As he stumbled, Magar struck that Officer in the face, and then placed a lit cigarette on the back of the Officers neck, causing him to sustain a small burn. Magar continued to resist arrest but was ultimately placed under arrest.
As a result of Magar’s actions, she was charged with Resisting Arrest and Assault in the Second Degree (Assault on a Police Officer).
The Officer that sustained the minor burn injury was treated by Erways Ambulance Paramedics, and is expected to return to duty.
