On September 29, 2024 around 1:00 AM, Elmira Police Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of W Water St regarding 75-100 people in the roadways causing a disturbance and fighting. When Officers arrived on scene, one subject needed medical attention due to a physical altercation. While Officers and EMS were tending to the injured person, a subject was refusing to leave the area causing a disturbance preventing Officers and EMS from helping the injured. This subject was subsequently arrested for Disorderly Conduct. After the injured person was transported to Arnot Hospital, a number of subjects were transported to the Elmira Police Station and interviewed. The injured person would later refuse medical attention at Arnot Hospital. At this time, no arrests have been made regarding the physical disturbance.
Around 4:45 AM, Elmira Police Officers responded to a residence on S Main St regarding a subject who had been stabbed. When Officers arrived, it was determined the subject had been stabbed earlier around 1:00 AM during the above disturbance. The subject had been stabbed several times in the back. The injuries did not appear to be life threatening. The victim was uncooperative with Officers and only wanted medical treatment. The subject was transported to Arnot Hospital for treatment.
During the large disturbance, the Elmira Police Department was assisted by New York State Police, Chemung County Sherriff’s Department, and West Elmira Police Department.
