Subject: Stolen Property investigation
On October 15th 2024 members of the Elmira Police Department responded to the area of Franklin St near South Ave to assist the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division with the execution of a search warrant related to several burglaries in Steuben County. While conducting this search warrant numerous items of stolen property related to those burglaries were recovered. Additionally, numerous items of stolen property related to other cases in Chemung and surrounding counties were also located at the residence.
As a result of this investigation the Elmira Police Department has charged Zachary Z Smith, a 36-year-old male from Elmira, with Criminal Possession of a weapon 4th Degree, a class A Misdemeanor and Trent M Johnson, a 22-year-old male from Elmira, with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd Degree, a class D Felony.
The Elmira Police Department would like to thank the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police for their participation in this search warrant. The Elmira Police Department and other agencies are still actively investigating this incident at this time and additional charges are expected.
