Subject: Fire and Bridge Closure
On October 30, 2024 at approximately 4:45 AM, Elmira Police Officers while conducting routine patrol observed smoke coming from under the bridge located on W Washington Ave between Magee St and Hatch St. Upon further investigation a fire was located under the bridge. The fire was brought under control by Elmira Fire Department. As a result of the fire the bridge will be closed until further notice while NYSDOT and Norfolk Southern completes an assessment of damages.
