On April 7, 2025, at approximately 4:36 AM Elmira Police Officers were conducting routine patrols in the area of Fulton St at Partridge St. At this time Officers observed a vehicle failing to stop at a stop sign in violation of NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law. Officers conducted a traffic stop regarding this violation. After identifying the driver, it was determined the operator had an active warrant. A subsequent investigation resulting in the search of the driver and his vehicle resulted in Officers locating Methamphetamine and a loaded 9MM handgun.
As a result of this investigation, Timothy Westervelt, a 30-year-old male from Lindley, NY, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, a class C felony. Additional charges are pending. At the time of this press release, Westervelt is awaiting arraignment in Elmira City Court.
