Subject: Gun Shots/Criminal Possession of a Weapon Arrest-08/07/2025
On August 7th, 2025 at approximately 10:42 PM Elmira Police Officers responded to the area of W. Gray St. and Guinnip Ave. for a report of multiple gun shots and two vehicles fleeing the area.
A responding Officer located a vehicle in the immediate area and attempted to perform a traffic stop on it. The vehicle failed to stop and after a brief vehicle pursuit and subsequent foot pursuit a male was stopped and detained.
Officers did locate evidence of a shooting, as there were several spent casings recovered from the area. Officers also located a loaded 9mm handgun.
As a result of this investigation, Christopher J. Brumfield, a 19 year of male of Elmira was arrested for 1 count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree a class C Felony and numerous traffic infractions.
No injuries were reported at this time. EPD was assisted by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, West Elmira Police Department, Elmira Heights Police Department, New York State Police, and the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office during the investigation.
