Subject: N Main St. Incident
On June 25th, 2024 at approximately 7:44 AM, Elmira Police Officers were dispatched to the report of a disturbance in the 700 block of N. Main St. Upon arrival in the area Officers were able to obtain information from the caller and determined that a male was at the residence. This male being in violation of an active Order of Protection and unwanted at the residence. It should further be noted that this male had assaulted the caller on June 15, 2024.
Officers secured a perimeter around the residence and after attempting contact with the male for approximately one hour with no contact began a search of the residence for the male. During this search the male was located barricaded in a room on the second floor. Upon contact with the male at the door of the room the male began throwing numerous items at Officers at which time the male was tased. The taser was ineffective and the male was able to break a window in this room before turning around and brandishing a knife at the Officers. At that time an Elmira Police Officer discharged his duty firearm at the male. The male then dove out of the window, landing in the driveway before taking off running. Officers on the perimeter were able to take the male into custody. The male was taken for medical treatment at a local hospital. The male was not struck by the Officers duty weapon.
