Subject: Arson Investigation UPDATE
On August 15th 2024, the involved black SUV was identified by members of the Elmira Police Department Detective Bureau. The vehicle was located at a business within the Village of Horseheads and a search warrant was applied for in the Village of Horseheads Court. Execution of the search warrant resulted in evidence of this crime being found.
This case remains an active investigation by the Elmira Police Department and Elmira Fire Department.

On August 13th, 2024 at approximately 08:45PM, the Elmira Police Department responded with the Elmira Fire Department to 356 W Fourth St for a reported structure fire. Responding personnel observed an active fire inside of the vacant residential structure which was quickly brought under control. No occupants were inside of the building and no injuries were sustained.
An investigation into the cause of the fire was conducted by the Elmira Fire Department and NYS Fire Investigators. At this time, the incident is considered a suspected arson.
The Elmira Police Department is seeking the community’s assistance with information regarding a suspect vehicle; a black SUV with an obscured rear license plate that was observed in the area prior to the fire.
